The safety and recommended guidelines for breastfeeding when a mother is using alcohol, smoking, marijuana, opioids, Methadone and Suboxone will be discussed. The symptoms of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) in an infant that can complicate the breastfeeding process will also be discussed, with potential solutions provided. Options for bonding and soothing will be provided for those families when breastfeeding is contraindicated.
