Description: Given the current barriers in available lactation support, systemic racism, and inequities in breastfeeding outcomes across the US, it’s imperative that we center equity when providing lactation support. During this session we will provide an opportunity for participants to identify barriers for non-English speaking breastfeeding families. Discuss recommendations to supporting non-speaking English families, particularly in under-served communities. We will discuss the importance of including and centering the needs of non-English speaking communities being served when developing approaches to meeting their needs. Be able to determine current barriers to providing care within your own practice or organization. This session will provide participants with an in-depth look at how peer support can address racial equity in breastfeeding support as it relates to language access that supports building bridges, trust, and connections.
